DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P2817
DTC P2817:Shift Solenoid Valve O/P (Pressure Control Solenoid H) Stuck Off

General Description

Transmission fluid pump volume changes by shift solenoid valve O/P ON/OFF control
Transmission fluid pump volume
Shift Solenoid Valve O/P
High
OFF
Low
ON

The shift solenoid valve O/P controls the drain circuit close/open commanded by the powertrain control module (PCM) ON/OFF commands. The transmission fluid pump volume is changed by switching the shift solenoid valve O/P ON/OFF control. The PCM commands the driver circuit to turn on the shift solenoid valve O/P. The PCM temporarily increases the driven pulley pressure up to target value. As the commanded driven pulley pressure reaches the target value, the PCM monitors the driven pulley pressure when the shift solenoid valve O/P is ON and OFF. If the driven pulley pressure does not change, the PCM detects a shift solenoid valve O/P stuck OFF malfunction and stores a DTC.

Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
Shift solenoid valve O/P stuck off

Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition

1.
Start the engine.
2.
With the brake pedal pressed, place the shift lever from N to D position/mode.
3.
Accelerate the vehicle to 12 mph (20 km/h).
4.
Stop and leave the vehicle for at least 10 seconds.
5.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
6.
Repeat Driving Pattern steps 1 through 4.

Drive the vehicle in this manner only if the traffic regulations and ambient conditions allow.
With the HDS
None.

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the shift position indicator blinks and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The shift position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
