Cable Reel Removal and Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE: Before doing this procedure, set the front wheels in the straight ahead position.


NOTE: Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

4. Cable Reel - Remove

Disconnect the connectors (A) from the cable reel.

2.
For some models: Disconnect the connector (B) from the cable reel.

3.
Release the lock tabs (C), then remove the cable reel (D).

NOTE:
Before installing the steering wheel, make sure the front wheels are aligned straight ahead.
The new cable reel is locked by a yellow tab for center adjustment. When installing a new cable reel there is no need to rotate the cable reel. After installation of the cable reel, remove the tab and discard it.
If the driver's airbag deployed, the cable reel cannot be reused because of thermal damage.

1. Cable Reel - Install

Install the cable reel (A).

Connect the connectors (B) to the cable reel.

For some models: Connect the connector (C) to the cable reel.

Make sure the front wheels are pointing straight ahead.

2.
Rotate the cable reel (A) clockwise until it stops.

3.
Rotate the cable reel counterclockwise until the arrow mark (B) on the cable reel points straight up.

4.
Rotate the cable reel counterclockwise two full turns. The arrow mark on the cable reel should point straight up.

5. SRS Operation - Confirm

Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure, turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
